JUNIOR CAMP LEADER ROLES

Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Road, Belleville, ON)
Hours: 41 hours per week, 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday, with Tuesdays being 8:00am – 6:15pm. Note: Training hours (June) will differ.
Employee Group: Non-Union
Salary: $18.09 - $19.30 per hour

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
As a member of the Community Services Department, this staff person will assist the Senior Leader to provide safe supervision and to organize and implement games and activities for children ages 4 to 17 years.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will:
- Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct.
- Ensure the safety and supervision of the participants and follow all rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations.
- Assist with the development, implementation, supervision and evaluation of the daily activities, to ensure a successful program.
- Assist with the proper handling and care of the equipment, supplies and facilities utilized, and report damage or losses to the Camp Coordinator.
- Assist with the daily cleanliness of the facility.
- Assist with the completion of the required administrative forms (ie. accident forms, supply requests, special event forms, etc.).
- Participate in daily activities with the campers (including swimming).
- Act as Senior Leader if the Senior Leader is absent.
- Supervise participants during the extended hours service, when scheduled.
- Attend all staff training sessions and scheduled staff meetings.
- Provide timely, accurate information to the Camp Coordinator and respond appropriately to their decisions and directions.
- Make decisions around child safety, supervision, activity planning, and camper’s behaviour management. Junior Leaders must also assist in problem solving during behavioural incidents, parental complaints, or concerned community members while in public spaces. In escalated situations, they would call their Senior Leader or the Coordinator for assistance.
- Perform all tasks and responsibilities through the lens of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, ensuring commitment to fairness, representation, accessibility and respect for diverse perspectives and cultures in all aspects of work.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum enrolled in Highschool, college, university or equivalent
- Valid current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification
- Valid High Five, Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (“CRC”) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville
- Previous experience working with children (example: babysitting)
- Experience leading children’s activities like crafts, games, music and sports.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Babysitting Course
- Enrolment in a post-secondary school child-related, recreation, social work, or related field of study
- Completion of a Leader-In-Training program
- Previous experience as a camp leader or volunteer
JUNIOR CAMP LEADER (GENERAL):
Number of Positions Available: 10
These positions will be general in nature and be associated with a variety of games and activities throughout the summer. In addition to the qualifications listed above:
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor qualifications.
- NCCP Coaching certifications.
JUNIOR CAMP LEADER (SPORTS):
Number of Positions Available: 1
This position will focus specifically on sports and recreation related activities. In addition to the qualifications listed above:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience as a participant in sport discipline(s).
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor qualifications.
- NCCP Coaching certifications.
- Experience coaching/instructing sport programs to children of various ages.
- Experience as a sport referee or official.
SENIOR CAMP LEADER (THEATRE):
Number of Positions Available: 1
This position will focus specifically on theatre and drama related activities. In addition to the qualifications listed above:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in theatre either as a participant or work/volunteer experience.
SENIOR CAMP LEADER (WATER):
Number of Positions Available: 1
This position will focus on aquatic-related sports and activities, along with regular camp activities. In addition to the qualifications listed above:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid current Bronze Cross certification.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
- National Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor qualifications.
- NCCP Coaching certifications.
- Experience leading swimming and water activities like (canoe, synchro, diving, underwater activities, etc).
RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
Stage 1 – Interviews: Interviews with candidates selected for the interview stage will be scheduled between February 20, 2026 and February 22, 2026.Stage 2 – Offer Letter and Onboarding Paperwork: Offers will go out before the end of March 2026 and a date will be included in all offer letters for return of onboarding paperwork.
Stage 3 – Start Date: The anticipated commencement of this position is June 6, 2026 to June 28, 2026 (training, reduced schedule), regular schedule from June 29, 2026 until September 4, 2026.
